VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHERS
We are looking for a small but enthusiastic team of volunteer photographers to capture the Festival from a variety of perspectives – stage, readings, backstage, audience, sponsors, overall vibe, parties, volunteers, etc. Images will be used for marketing, grant applications, the website, and advertising. Requirements: Your own camera and some familiarity with event photography. Please submit a sample of your work by email to biartsfestival@gmail.com.
STREET FAIR OUTREACH - SAT SEPT 8
We are looking for one volunteer - to help staff a table to promote the Festival at the Church/Wellesley MEET YOUR NEIGHBOURS! Event - Saturday, September 8, noon-6pm, Barbara Hall Park. Requirements: Must be available on designated date, be outgoing and friendly, feel comfortable and enthusiastic about talking to folks about the Festival.
PUBLICITY & MARKETING
We are looking for energetic and outgoing volunteers to spread the word about the Festival, far and wide! Specific tasks might include:
- Distributing "Save the Date" postcards/flyers in various neighbourhoods.
- Entering event listings online - for Torontoist, BlogTO, She Does the City, YoHomo, Xtra, NOW, the Star
- Designing and xeroxing posters for various events - 8.5 x 11 inches, black and white
- Putting posters up in various neighborhoods, and sharing same through email lists
- Exploring media partnerships, for instance a ticket giveaway with NOW magazine, with YoHomo, with She Does the City
- Promoting the zine workshop (date TBD in August) - led by Kat, will be a hands-on workshop on creating installations for the Glory Hole Gallery
- Promoting the "one-minute" filmmaking workshop
SOCIAL MEDIA
We are looking for web and tech-savvy volunteers to promote Festival events, share info about our performers, vendors and sponsors on our social media platforms. You will promote events on Twitter, IG, FB, as well as promo specific artists and vendors, and create images for various online formats (ie square for IG).
FUNDRAISING & PARTNERSHIPS (Big Bi Nibble and Fundrazr)
- Promote the cookbook & fundrazr on social media and in queer and bi networks
- Approach bookstores to carry the cookbook
MERCHANDISE - VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE
Requirements: Volunteers should be cheerful, efficient and calm. Do you enjoy creating displays? Can you handle a crowd? Experience with sales & cash handling is ideal, including using a Square reader/processor.

TICKET TAKERS / GREETERS / WELCOMER- VARIOUS SHIFTS AVAILABLE
Must be comfortable with taking tickets, answering questions, and problem solving. You should be outgoing and friendly and have experience dealing with the public, and be basically somewhat unflappable!

SEPT 18 - OPENING NIGHT / ZINE LAUNCH
- Sept 18 - help setup and tear down at Glad Day - 2 volunteers needed

SEPT 19 - STORYTELLING AND FILM SHOWCASE AT PALMERSTON LIBRARY THEATRE (ANNEX)
- Set up tables in lobby
- Tidy up, including sweeping, mopping floor, checking for litter in seats, etc.

SEPT 20 - WOMANNISH at ARTSCAPE YOUNGPLACE
Womannish is a new one-woman play/performance by poet Eris Eady, which explores bisexuality, Blackness and gender.
- Assistant for performer - Eris - any last minute needs, etc.

SEPT 18 and 21 - ART EXHIBIT and postcard show at Beaver Hall Gallery, 29 McCaul St.
- Hanging show (Tues Sept 18th, daytime)
- Daytime shifts gallery sitting - Wed, Thurs, Friday, Sat and Sun, noon-5pm.
- Drink ticket sales - 1 /// Postcard Sales/Merch - 1 for Sept 21
- Bartender (must have Smart Serve) for Sept 21
- Nibbles - put out, keep tidy, clean up at end - for Sept 21

SEPT 22 - CRAFT FAIR/POP UP MARKET at Trinity St. Paul’s United Church.
The Pop Up Market includes artists and artisans who make handcrafted items, zines, and art. Must be comfortable lifting and carrying. Volunteers are needed to help:
- Setup tables and chairs x 4 volunteers
- Help vendors carry in items from cars / taxis
- Check-in with vendors on a regular basis/answer questions, get help if requested
- Outside signage

SEPT 22 - AUTHOR SHOWCASE
- Assistant for curator, to greet/help as authors arrive

SEPT 22 - HOW TO SELF-SUSPEND, 7pm and 9pm
- Assistant to performer (getting what they need, etc.)
- Setup
- Cleanup (restoring space to original setup, sweeping, mopping if necessary)
- Putting up outside signage on Sterling and around building, directing guests to site

SEPT 23 - CABARET
- Backstage / green room assistant - making sure performers are all okay!
- Stage assistants (set up, clearing stage after performances)

- Decorating: If you love to be creative, decorate, and make things look awesome, this is the job for you. Help the Tranzac look fabulous for our event.
Sept 24 - BEAVER HALL GALLERY
Help take down art show and clean up at gallery.
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION PARTY
Do you like to plan an amazing party? Are you a decorating diva? Help plan and execute our volunteer appreciation party, to be held later in September.
